The GE Monogram range hood grease filter recall affects select 36-inch and 48-inch ventilation hoods whose baffle filter retaining clips can fail, causing the filter to dislodge and drop onto an active burner or open flame below—creating an immediate grease fire hazard. CPSC and GE Appliances announced this recall in March 2024.
A grease-saturated baffle filter that contacts an open flame can ignite rapidly and spread flaming grease across the cooktop surface. GE Appliances received 27 reports of filter panels becoming loose, with eight reports of panels falling during cooking. Three incidents resulted in grease flare-ups, causing minor burns and property damage.
Affected models and production dates: The recall covers GE Monogram ventilation hoods with model numbers ZV36, ZV48, ZVC36, and ZVC48 manufactured between June 2021 and December 2023. Serial numbers in the range VU500001–VU893000 are covered. The label is on the interior of the hood canopy, visible when the filters are removed.
Hazard and symptoms: Symptoms include filters that feel loose or shift when touched during cleaning, a filter that does not lock positively into the retaining channel with an audible click, visible cracking or deformation of the plastic retaining clip, or a filter that has already fallen once and been repositioned. Filters that appear secure may still fail under vibration or thermal stress.
- Remove all baffle filters from the hood and do not reinsert them until replacement clips are installed.
- Do not use the range or cooktop below without functional grease filters in place; alternative venting may be needed until repair.
- Call GE Appliances at 1-800-626-2005 to confirm recall eligibility and order a free hardware kit with redesigned stainless-steel retaining clips.
- Install the replacement clips following the instruction sheet included in the kit, or schedule a free technician visit for installation assistance.
- After installation, tug each filter firmly to confirm it is locked securely before resuming cooking.

Urgency level: Moderate-High. Remove and do not reinstall the filters until the retaining clips are replaced. Operating with an unsecured grease filter above an open flame is a fire hazard.
