Monogram Gas Range Knob Activation Recall — 2019 Models

The GE Monogram gas range knob recall addresses a serious gas-leak hazard in select 36-inch and 48-inch pro-style ranges whose front-mounted burner knobs can be activated by light contact—such as a brush from a child’s hand or an item placed against the control panel—without pushing in the child-safety lock. CPSC and GE Appliances announced this recall in May 2019.

Unintended gas release without ignition creates dangerous explosive and carbon monoxide hazards. GE Appliances received dozens of reports of gas odors in kitchens, including several incidents where children inadvertently turned on burners. Two minor burn injuries were reported before the recall was issued.

Affected models and production dates: The recall covers GE Monogram Pro Range models ZGP364, ZGP484, ZGP366, and ZDP486 (dual-fuel) manufactured between July 2016 and January 2019. The serial-number label is located on the oven frame behind the storage drawer. Serial numbers in the range SR600001–SR922000 are included.

Hazard and symptoms: The knob detent mechanism does not provide sufficient resistance to prevent inadvertent rotation, allowing gas to flow without ignition. Symptoms include an intermittent gas smell in the kitchen with no visible flame, a soft clicking from the igniter triggered by light knob contact, or unexplained gas usage on your utility bill. If gas odor is strong and persistent, treat this as an emergency.

  1. If you smell gas strongly, leave the home immediately, leave the door open, avoid operating any electrical switches, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.
  2. For mild or intermittent odor, turn all knobs to the OFF position and verify all burners are extinguished.
  3. Call GE Appliances at 1-800-626-2005 to confirm your model is affected and to order free replacement knobs with improved detent resistance.
  4. Install the replacement knobs as directed in the instruction sheet provided, or request a free technician visit if you prefer professional installation.
  5. Keep children away from the range control panel until replacement knobs are installed.

Reach GE Appliances at 1-800-626-2005 or online at geappliances.com/recalls. The CPSC recall notice is at cpsc.gov (search recall #19-108).

Urgency level: High. Install replacement knobs or restrict access to the range immediately. Gas leaks carry explosion and asphyxiation risks that require urgent action.
