Monogram Dual-Fuel Range Igniter Recall — 2015 Models

The GE Monogram dual-fuel range igniter recall covers select 48-inch and 36-inch dual-fuel pro ranges whose electronic igniter module can develop an internal short circuit, causing continuous sparking even when no burner is selected and potentially igniting spilled gas if a knob is accidentally turned on. CPSC and GE Appliances announced this recall in November 2015.

Continuous igniter sparking is hazardous because it eliminates the delay between gas release and ignition, which is the normal safety buffer that allows gas to dissipate harmlessly when a burner is lit. If gas accumulates briefly near a continuously sparking igniter, flash-back ignition or a small explosion can result. GE Appliances received 22 reports of continuous sparking, including four reports of unexpected flash ignition that caused minor burns to user hands.

Affected models and production dates: The recall covers GE Monogram dual-fuel ranges with model numbers ZDP48 and ZDP36 (e.g., ZDP484NGNSS, ZDP364NDNSS) manufactured between March 2012 and July 2015. Serial numbers in the range SK200001–SK511000 are affected. The model/serial label is on the oven door frame, visible when the door is open.

Hazard and symptoms: The most obvious symptom is audible clicking from the igniters when no burner knob is in the LITE position and no burner is actively igniting. Additional symptoms include the clicking continuing after a burner is lit and the knob is turned to a heat setting, a burning smell from the igniter area without visible flame, or a tripped GFCI outlet if the range is plugged into a protected circuit. Moisture ingress into the igniter module is the primary root cause.

  1. If continuous sparking is heard with all knobs in the OFF position, turn off the gas supply to the range at the shutoff valve behind or below the unit.
  2. Unplug the range or shut off the electrical circuit breaker dedicated to the range.
  3. Do not use the range until the igniter module is replaced.
  4. Call GE Appliances at 1-800-626-2005 to confirm recall eligibility and schedule a free in-home igniter module replacement.
  5. After repair, test each burner in a well-ventilated area to confirm ignition occurs only when the knob is in the LITE position.

Urgency level: High. Shut off gas and electricity to the range immediately if continuous sparking is observed. Do not attempt to operate the range until the igniter module is replaced by a GE-authorized technician.
