Monogram Freezer PF Error: Power failure detected
The PF code on a Monogram freezer is a Power Failure notification. The unit detected a loss and restoration of electrical power and displays PF to alert the user to check whether stored frozen food reached unsafe temperatures during the outage.

Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
Yes. The PF code is informational. The freezer itself is functioning correctly. Safe use depends on whether food temperatures were compromised — verify food safety before consuming or refreezing thawed items.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. Press any control panel button to clear the PF notification. No appliance repair is needed for a PF code following a genuine power outage.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: Meat, poultry, or seafood has fully thawed and reached 40°F — these should be cooked immediately or discarded, not refrozen., PF appears repeatedly with no known utility outage — investigate the circuit and outlet for intermittent electrical faults..
Symptoms You May Notice
Frozen food may have partially thawed
Depending on outage duration and how full the freezer was, some or all frozen contents may have warmed above safe freezing temperatures during the power interruption.
PF displayed on startup
When power is restored, the Monogram freezer display shows PF to notify the user that an unattended power outage occurred.
Unit resumes normal operation
Beyond the PF notification, the freezer functions normally — compressor, fan, and defrost system all resume their standard cycles on power restoration.
Temperature reading higher than set point
The display may show the current compartment temperature, which will be higher than the set point immediately after restoration as the unit works to pull temperatures back down.
Possible Causes
Utility power outage
A grid-level power failure cut electrical service to the home for a period of time.
DIY PossibleTripped circuit breaker
The dedicated freezer circuit breaker tripped due to an overload, ground fault, or arc fault.
DIY PossibleLoose power cord or outlet
The power cord worked loose from the outlet or the outlet itself has intermittent contact, causing repeated PF notifications.
DIY PossibleSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Assess food safety
Check the temperature of food near the center of the freezer. If ice crystals are still present and food feels frozen solid, it is safe. If food has fully thawed and reached 40°F or above, evaluate for discard based on food type.
A frozen block of water (kept in the freezer as a temperature indicator) tells you if the freezer reached 32°F — if it is fully melted, the outage was significant.
-
2
Acknowledge and clear the PF code
Press any button on the Monogram control panel to acknowledge the power failure alert. The display will return to normal temperature readings.
If an alarm tone is sounding, press the Alarm Reset button to silence it.
-
3
Investigate repeated PF codes
If PF appears without a known utility outage, check that the power cord is firmly seated in a dedicated, properly grounded outlet. Check the circuit breaker panel for a tripped breaker.
A freezer should be on a dedicated 15A circuit. Sharing with other appliances can cause the breaker to trip intermittently, producing repeated PF codes.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- The circuit breaker trips repeatedly — indicates an electrical fault in the appliance or circuit wiring requiring a licensed electrician.
- PF appears multiple times per week — a loose internal connection or failing control board power supply circuit may be causing internal power dropouts.
